The stair climbing simulating machine has been a part of the fitness
center since 1983.
In 1983 the inventor of the first stair stepping simulation machine
went to a trade show in California. He called the machine the
Stairmaster 6000. It looked like a mini escalator. It had a clutch
bar on the side. The users bodyweight and gravity would make the
steps drop down and the clutch would make the steps drops faster or
slower. This inventor was looking to the sports training market. Eventually
he sold the patent to the "Sports Medical Company". This company
designed the non-escalator pedal version. Patented the design and
formed the Stairmaster Corporation. And a new era was formed.
The Stairmaster Company took the World by
storm and everyone was getting fit on a Stairmaster. The next phase was that all the big manufactures in the fitness business made
their own version of the stair stepper machine. Now 25 years later the stepper machine plays a part inside every
fitness center. They are not as popular as they once were but no gym
can be complete without at least a few in stock.
The stair-climbing simulator played a big part in the growth of the
modern fitness center and we are grateful.
