A critical
and often overlooked measure of effectiveness is to ask fitness center
users what they think. Design a short survey to distribute, an online
survey or an email survey. Ask current members to rate key aspects of
your center, including hours of operation; cleanliness of studios,
cardio areas, weight areas and locker rooms; class offerings;
music/entertainment operations; and staff professionalism and
helpfulness.
A formal
written survey like this should be conducted at least once a year to
give you a good measure of how satisfied your members are. In
addition, it is a good idea to have a suggestion box for members that
is placed in a convenient location. Make sure staff members regularly
check the suggestion box, and get back to members regarding their
suggestions. Keep the lines of communication open. Having approachable
staff is a great way to stay in touch with members, and know what id
on their
minds.
