Life Fitness Treadmills

Preventative Maintenance Tips

Practice these preventative maintenance tips to ensure a long and healthy life for your treadmill:

1. Using a diluted mild detergent and water mixture, dampen a soft cotton cloth and wipe down the exterior if the unit, including the frame, display console, accessory trays, and hand rails (side and front). DO NOT use paper towels, ammonia or acid based cleaners.

2. Clean top surface of the belt using a water-damped cloth. Make sure to let the surface dry before walking or running on it. Keeping the top surface of the belt clean will prevent dirt and dust from moving off the sides of the belt and in between the belt and deck.

3. Vacuum under the unit and around the unit. This will help remove surrounding debris and contaminants and prevent them from getting between the belt and deck.

4. Vacuum or wipe down the exposed surface of the deck. Often, debris and contaminants will accumulate on this surface and eventually make its way between the belt and deck.

5. Check and tighten hardware, including the handrails, ergo bar, console mounting, end caps, deck screws and roller guards. All you need is a set of Allen and torque wrenches. These wrenches were provided with each of the treadmills upon delivery and installation. If you need additional wrenches, please contact us, or visit a local hardware store.

6. Ensure that the treadmill is level at all times. Often, when moving a treadmill for purposes of vacuuming or reorganization of the equipment, the treadmill may become unleveled. Keeping the treadmill level will help keep the belt centered and avoid belt tracking problems. Refer to your Treadmill Operation Manual for details.

7. Quarterly inspect and clean wax nozzle if required. The automatic wax lubrication system on your Life Fitness treadmill is designed to eliminate nozzle clogs. However, wax could dry on the nozzle and could possibly change the wax flow pattern. Refer to your Treadmill Operation Manual for details

8. Verify stop button and safety magnet for proper operation. This will ensure that the safety features are functioning properly. To check, straddle the walking belt and pull the stop lanyard (stop sign shaped magnet attached to black cord) from its place on the console. If functioning properly, the belt will stop. Replace the stop lanyard and reset the treadmill by pressing the CLEAR button. From a straddled position, now press the stop switch (rectangle shape with word STOP). If functioning properly, the belt will stop.

9. Ask your members to keep their shoes clean. This is especially important in the winter months where salt and sand may be present on the sidewalks and streets. These materials can become wedged in between the belt and deck, causing accelerated wear and tear on the belt. Try to place a thick floor mat near the entrance of the club to ensure that the members are wiping their feet.

10. Avoid placing treadmills in areas with excessive circulation of air (for example near air ducts, ceiling fans, doors, fans). These areas contribute to circulating dirt and debris along with the air. It is important to keep the floors clean, so keeping the treads away from airflow will help keep the areas clean from dust, dirt, etc.
